I have a 1964 1/2 (65) mustang that I am looking to see if I can get some more info on. The vin# is 5F07F108894. The engine I know was originally a 260 but has been replaced at some point with a 302. I know its an early 65 but was wondering if anybody could tell me the build date or other info? The data plate has been painted over and I haven't tried to remove the paint yet. Thanks

You have a very early car, built in the first month of production. Your date code should be either "06D" or "07D" as I have VINs 5F07U108783 as 06D and then I have 5F07U108943 with 07D. That would be April 6th or 7th, 1964.


I scraped my original painted over door tag off with a plastic scraper and it came out decent with minimal damage. If your door tag is original even if you wire brush it and damage it you still have all the stamped original info that you can use to get a replacement from Marti with.

Hello. Yup, that sounds about right. Even with the tag covered with paint, you might still be able to make out the codes that are stamped on there. Across the top of the tag, it goes Body Color Trim Date DSO Axle Trans . There will be three characters underneath date. The first one will be a zero on your car and the last will be the letter D. All that you have to do is figure out what the one in the middle is.
