Default alarm / theft deterent

Hi,

I am curious what people are using for alarms systems or theft deterents for their classic convertibles. When you go places do you leave the top down when you leave the car or put it up every time.

The best insurance you can afford.Lojack is ok but a cop has to go looking for it and come with in so many yards of the car.Alarms are ok at slowing down a good theft. But today most use tow trucks take it somewhere and unhook the alarm on there own time.I drive a repo tow truck i have repoed many cars at night with the alarm screaming at 2am no one so much as looks out.Mine i have a alarm a fuel kill hidden and a locking t handle on the shifter.

andrew is right, a good fuel cutoff and a hidden ignition kill switch are good. but like they say, if they want it bad enough they will get it!

just let your car look like hell, that way they go for something else! just messing. I'm thinking of adding in a switch under my battery tray that when not flipped properly will keep it from connecting. only problem is that I would have to pop my hood everytime and it would be easy to figure out for anybody that can follow a wire. Want something clever though.

I have a inline pump and there is a switch somewhere in the car to kill it.Some have talked about making a fake coil wire for when you park it over night or longer.Best thing i seen yet is The T-Lock i have one its simple and works.

My brothers 65' has a switch under the dash you have to switch it to the on position and then use the key to start it. Once again a good theif could easily do it but it will slow them down.

Thanks everyone - fuel switch might be a good idea - the car is garage parked but just looking for a little peace of mind when parking at a restaurant or something

I'll be installing an alarm with a pager feature, worked well on a previous car, that is if you like to catch the thief with his legs sticking out of the window....I may also hide a kill switch or if I get my batt. installed in the trunk take my cutoff key.

I drive mine in my small town a lot and leave the windows down/unlocked for most store stops, people are recognizing me and look at the car. There's usually someone friendly near it when i return.

I don't have a classic 'vert. But I have a '94 GT 'vert. I leave the top down. It's insured and if they want a $150 radio that's better than them cutting into a $400 top and stealing it. I also don't leave anything valuable in it when I park.

Take it from me, insure it and get it appraised. My 66 was stolen May 11, infront of a restuarant in Fremont California somewhere in the hours of 7-9:30pm. I had a detachable steering wheel anti-theft, so the steering wheel was not in the car when they took it.

If they want it bad enough, they will get it. I thought I was doing all the right things. Had the steering wheel off, parked under a light, a well populated area, and no one saw ANYTHING.

I too thought, hey my car is unique and I know alot of people, all the mustang mechanics in the area, all the parts guys, been to all the car shows; someone would have to be a fool to steal it, and would immediately get caught if they do. Sorry, that was not the case. Its been 4 weeks and it still has not turned up.

Protect it with insurance, tons of pictures, reciepts, and an appraisal.

If you want a laugh my friend has a 78 f150 they broke out his window the door wasn't even locked and they stole a radio that didn't work.Thuggin your car was probably towed off its faster for them and most don't think a tow truck is stealing a car.
