Default California Pony Car parts

Hello. I went a local retailer of vintage Mustang parts today to buy something to stash away for my car, because the guy has nos Ford parts occasionally, and thought that, while I was there I would look at some of the stuff that California Pony Cars makes. I had never even heard of the company until recently, or, if I had, I had forgotten all about it. ( I hate it when that happens. ) I looked at a 65 gas cap that they made, and that thing looked really nice. You couldn't use it on a trailered concours show car, because that class doesn't allow reproduction parts, but, with it on the car, you would never be able to tell it from the Ford gas cap. That thing looked nice. So, I 'accidentally' dropped it on the tile floor, kicked it a couple of times, bounced it off the wall, etc.. and looked at it again, and the chrome hadn't chipped or gotten scratched or anything. Overall a very nice product that I would have absolutely no prblem with buying and putting on my car if I needed a gas cap. Same deal on the foglight bars.

There are so many that manufacturers and try to sell us junk for our cars that I thought that it should be mentioned when a good product is found. It's nice to know that someone is making the effort to provide quality products for these cars that we all love. In fact, I'm going to go back down there and buy a 64 1/2 gas cap for my car and put the original in a box so that I won't be the one that loses it after it's been on the car for 45 years.

Thanks for the info Veronica, it is good to hear there are some good quality products out. This would be a great place to build a list of quality reproduction parts

Hi again. I also looked at a transmission crossmember that they make for a tremec conversion. It appeared to be a very good item, but, without trying to put it on a car, I couldn't really say much. So, I asked some people that I know that would know what they are talking about, and they told me that it really was a top-notch piece. Great fit, durable construction, overall a very good piece.

I just went to their website and looked up the '66 GT gas cap. The price is right but although the photo shows a cable the words say 'w/o security cable'. Are their descriptions accurate? Didn't all '66s have the cable and you also can't add one after the fact. Some times it seems the small things are the hardest to get right.

Thanks for catching that, the intern copied it over from the 64 1/2 gas cap for info.

Thanks Mike,

I see the item's description now says 'with security cable'. Very good; I may need one of those.

Its also nice to realize there is a real person involved here who actually acknowledged a problem and fixed it. I like that. Keep up the good work.

Good stuff! I have used several of their parts on my fastback, including the T-5 cross-member, clutch cable and 17" wheels. The only issue I had was with the pony door handle wood grain contact paper, would not stay stuck to the metal, so I peeled it off and left it chrome.

I called The Paddock in Knightstown, Indiana to specifically ask the sales rep if they carry Cal Pony (CPC) parts and the sales rep never heard of them. Hmmmm. When I asked who makes their bumpers, she said she doesn't know the name(s) of suppliers. That leaves me in a generic world.

How would I know if a part is made by Cal Pony or not?

Years ago I bought a pair of reproduction standard outside rearview mirrors for my '65. I bought them and stored them away as I was in the middle of the body resto. When it came time to install them the mirrors, on both, just flopped around. The quality looked good but there was insufficient tension on them to hold them in place.

I still have them and as the car has hardly been driven I haven't sought to replace them. I don't remember who the vendor was but I will be real careful next time. Hopefully I'll buy ones that come with a recommendation

We are working with dealers about training their people. If you visit www.calponycarswholesale.com and click on find a dealer you will see our Master Dealers listed at the top of the page. They should be able to help you. Also CPC products are all marked with our CPC casting mark somewhere.

That is a common problem with even original mirrors, we have about 1 in 1,000 with this issue. If you flip over the mirror where it screws down to the car there should be casting numbers or logos. Send me a pic, if they are CPC mirrors we will replace them under warranty.
