I haven't rebuilt a V8 engine since 1973(well any engine). I want to make around 300 horse from a stock, oil burning, 302. Anyone know the cost difference of doing it myself, and a new rebuilt jasper/other engine?
Numbers matching is not an issue.
I have also been thinking about going with an early 90's engine with an AOD and Computer( but that will have to be done by a mechanic..
Just throwing it out there.

You can do EFI yourself there are several companies that are doing the bolt on plug and play efi systems.

It all just depends on how far you want to go with it. I have found crate motors for less than I have in min, but I have better parts in mine. A crate short block with some good heads, intake, cam, and carb. 300hp should be easy to get for you.

I just had the engine (351 cleveland) rebuilt on my 1972 mustang, that is impressive if you can do it yourself, also it's probably less expensive if you do it yourself. My total cost was $2900 (the guy knocked down the price for labor). Unfortunitly now I am having problems with the engine sounding ruff, so...I would have like to done it myself but not enough time in a day. Good luck!!
