Default Maximum tire sizes to avoid rubbing problem?

I'd like to put 15" styled steel wheels on my 66 fastback. What is maximum tire size(width and height) to avoid rubbing issues in both front and rear? Thanks

Hello,

I have 225-60-15 BFG Radial T/A's on 15X7 magnum 500's on all four corners. I have the stock ride height and have never had a problem rubbing at all.

Hope that helps

Do you know if the Magnums have the same offset as the styled steel wheels? BTW, nice looking cars you have there. Thanks

I have 275/50-15's on the back of my 66. No rubbing. They are on 15x8 Weld drag lites. With 4.5 of back spacing. I will tell you this you need to do a little hammer work to the inside wheel well. Also I would put in new leaf spring bushings and shackles.

If you have no rubbing, why would I need to do the hammer work on the wheel well? Thanks

I am running 16x8 Torque Thrust II with 4.5 back space and 225 50vr tires with no rubbing but it is close to the fender lips on The 66...
Here is a compiled list from Dodgestang of what works and what does not:

I only had to do it to the inside wheel well and not the out side wheel well. And it was a small amount of hammering at that. I'm happy with it. That's to keep it from rubbing

Hello again,

Thanks for the compliments on my cars. I enjoy them as much as everyone else does their cars.

As for the question about the backspacing, I'm sorry, but I don't know if the backspacing is the same for the styled steel wheels or not.

I guess I wasn't much help after all.

Actually you were a help because I found a dealer for both wheels and found that the offsets are the same for both.

Thanks for everybody's information and answers.

Thanks for the tire info. Noticed you installed an electric fan. Are you plesased with it's performance vs the stock fan blade? Thanks

It never gets hot now. It really moves the air.

We went with a Mustang Steve 20 inch Aluminum radiator ($199) to replace the 17 inch original. We had 2 after market radiators fail from 1-800Radiator and the last leak caused the head gaskets to go when it dumped the water through the seam crack. They would not honor the warranty (3 months old).

You must upgrade the alternator to run fan to a 100amp model with an electric fan.

Let us know how your wheel issue pans out.

Good Luck and Be Safe
Ron
