I feel like this forum, atleast the classic section does real well with punctuation and overall threads compared to other Forums. Only thing that bothers me are the I6 to v8 threads. I feel like we just need a sticky that has every single dang part you would ever need in the swap. Just my opinion though.
Here's another one which I am not announcing the author:
im a college student with a 66 inline 6 coupe. almost finished restoring, just has a sag in the back, replaced the suspension and a few guys told me i need new leaf springs. after looking around, i noticed ebay has whole kits for around 300 dollars with shipping, which is cheaper than buying all the parts separate. but its hard to trust ebay stuff. i want a standard height in the back, but dont know whether to get a 5 leaf mid eye, or a 4 leaf mid eye? which one would give me the standard hieight. or what is the better kind? or if u guys have any other suggestions regarding this topic i would appreciate it. thank you so much....
I'm getting tired just reading it! A college student, but probably not an English major!

He's mentioning the act of "stickying" or "tacking" a thread, only able to be done by a forum admin or mod, so that the thread will stay at the top of that forums section even if there's no new posts.
In VB3 (the software this forum runs on) you can sticky and unsticky a thread all you want, it doesn't affect the posts in the thread at all.
I have thought many times about making a thread about all the VIN locations on the years from 65-73 and having it stickied and locked! There are threads all the time in here asking how or where else to find a VIN since the door tag is missing. Not bad answering them occasionally but a simple search will turn up may threads on this subject.

I think a better sticky topic would be "6 to 8 conversion" or "I need to know what my car is worth (but have not posted pictures)". Of all the stupid topics posted here, punctuation, grammar, and spelling are really not that annoying to me. Even if the person can't spell they still sometimes have a good topic. Is this Miss Manners forum ?

Hi again. I think that this sort of question is more the result of being too lazy to do a search than of being stupid. One thing that would make a good sticky would be " Did you know that we have spellcheck here? " The reason that most languages have rules of grammar and punctuation, along with specific ways to spell words, is very simple. It's so that people reading what you have written will understand what you are trying to say. This greatly reduces the turn-around time from question to useful answer. It also eliminates an entire avenue of ways to be ridiculed and insulted You can have a lot of fun at my expense because my question was inherently stupid, but not because of the manner in which I framed it.
(And, that's Mrs. Manners. )

Part of the reason that posts like the ones referenced above are like fingernails on a chalkboard is that I'm both a programmer and was a technical communications major in college. In both areas, there's a big emphasis on precise grammar, punctuation and spelling.
So, most of my griping is just me being anal retentive because of the way my mind works, and by no means should anyone take it personally!
However, as Veronica said, an easy to read post will be easier for people to read and respond to. Personally, if I start reading a thread where the first post is one big block with no capital letters or punctuation, and a bunch of u's, ur's and 2's, I close it and move on. In the unlikely event that I would have had something meaningful to contribute, that's the author's loss.

OMG... Is this thread still going? IDK why we r spending so much time worying abot how we spell or punktuate az long az we kno what the person is saying whatz the big deal? i know it only takes a small moment of time to hit the shift key to start a sentanze, but who reeeeeely carez
Seriously though, sometimes it does become a bit much, and hard to decipher. Try to remember though, not all of us are english majors. IN FACT, I just saw a post the other day, and it was COMPLETLY in spanish. I kindly posted in my best spanglish back to the fella or lady who wrote it, to re-write it in english, and lo-and-behold, it was re-posted in english (although it was still spanglish) the next day. If we all just cut each other a little slack, and bust nutz only when appropriate, then it is all gonna be OK. I have no doubt.
