does anyone know what size gears were run in the orginal 289 1965 stangs....(not a hipo if it makes a difference) and it is NOT a 1964.5.....and there 8.8 inch rearends.......riiiiiight :P?

Hello. All 65 Mustangs that came with a 289 came with an 8 inch rear end, except K codes, which came with a 9 inch. Ford didn't start making the 8.8 inch rear end until 1988. There a couple of different gear ratios available in the 65 model 8 inch rear ends. You could have a 3.00:1 or a 2.80:1. These were both available as either an Equa-Lock ( posi) or conventional ( non-posi), although, the 8 inch Equa-Lock rear ends were extremely rare.
