Default 1971 Mach 1 Mustang-Hole shot converter

I purchased a 71 mach 1 with a 351 and a C6 tranny. The previous owner installed a hole shot converter. Can anyone tell me what exactly that is for?
Thanks,
Rick

Allows the engine to get to higher in RPMs before power is passed through to the transmission.
Never driven with one myself so I can only imagine what that would do to a daily driver.

If you lock the rear wheels you can rev the engine higher - closer to the torque curve of your engine so when you let off the brakes it allows more torque to be transmitted to the rear tires.
In normal street driving you will never notice it.
