Default 1966 Mustang rear end question

How do I know what size rear end my Mustang has, i.e is it an 8" or 9"? What sizes did they use? It is a 1966 Mustang 200CI with its factory original rear end including the original 3.20:1 gearing.

My parents said that as a graduation present, they would do anything I wanted to my Mustang as long as its under a certain price. Well, seeing as how I am taking care of the body work I decided on suspension. I was flipping through Mustang Monthly and I saw an ad for a rear coil over suspension kit for a 64-70 Mustang by Rod & Custom Motorsports. I went to their website to look at it, and it says that it bolts to your 8 or 9 inch rear end. I am just not sure that I have an 8 or 9 inch rear end. Thanks guys.

Default 1966 Mustang rear end

If it is the factory rear end then it is neither an 8" or 9". I have a 200cid 66 coupe and I am in the middle of putting in an 8" ford rear end with 3.25 gears. I believe the rear ends that came in the i6 was a 7.25" rear end. I am also in the middle of a disc brake conversion that will also convert me from 4 lug to 5 lug. If you still have the 4 lug and drum brakes a conversion to 5 lug and disc brakes is what I would ask my parents for. Especially if I was going to give it more power. Just my thoughts

It is going to have a bit more power, but that is when I buy the Comp Cams kits and Clifford 6 in 2 exhaust header for it. It's the original 6 and I am going to keep it that way. I could always ask them for real dayton knock-off wire wheels. I really want a set of their 72 spoke knock-off wire wheels.

That just tells me the ratio. I knew what the ratio is. It's the original 3.20:1 gearing.

It's a 7.25 inch rear end. I pulled mine out and it took a 7.25 inch gasket. Of course, now it's gonna have an 8 inch
