Default How to paint engine parts?

Hi All,

I have a new water pump that I want to paint..and I just wanted to get low down on how to do it....

Because it's brand new...do I simply prime it and then paint it??? Am I missing anything? Do I need to sand at all?

Thanks!!

if its just out of the box, and theres no coating on it, primer and paint. but if its got oil on it like they sometimes do, itd be good to sand it.

Thanks Vortex...

....when sanding, any particular way to do it to prevent particles from getting inside the part? Just tape the openings??

I also am doing the radiator of course....it's a beau satin black as is...do I need to paint that as well to get correct color black?

Thanks **

just tape them up, and as for the radiator, a gloss black is close enough

careful painting radiators . The fins are desighned to cool . So painting them could raise the temps . just something to consider

Believe it or not, painting the radiator black increases its ability to radiate. Paint with black lacquer only. Enamel is too thick and insulting.

I just finished painting my water pump..and i realized the red oxide primer i used did not have any high heat info on the can...meaning...the engine dark blue paint is rated to 500 F+ ...am I ok on that primer?

me again......I ordered black engine paint from NPD....high heat...says Gloss black on the can...is this acceptable for the radiator bracket..and other parts that should be black? I keep reading about "satin black" is appropriate color for the engine bay and certain parts??

sorry for keeping this one alive still..but i'm in the middle of doing a temp resto job on my engine....

My thermostat housing ...needs repaint...I have sanded down..and gotten some of the paint off but not all of it.....can i simply repaint it with the engine blue...or should I prime first...is primer definitely necessary?

degrease and sand before painting with high temp paint should be OK .
Does it say to prime on the can?
I painted my rocker covers about 18 months ago without priming and have no chips in them despite removing them half a dozen times or so .I used VHT engine enamel.
