Default 1966 Mustang Oil pressure hike

I have been working through a number of issues on my car, adjusting the timing and tinkering with the carb to get everything running smooth and something odd occurred yesterday that has not been an issue before. Oil pressure jumped between 65-70 PSI and at one point was around 75 PSI. I brought the car back home shortly after leaving the house and shut it down. What could be causing my oil pressure to jump like that? I mean normally it operates between 40-50. When I tried to run it later and drive it, the oil pressure backed down to its normal operating range after driving it for a little. Any thoughts?

289 I suppose?

The normal oil pressure is 55 psi and is controlled by a spring loaded valve in the oil pump. Only thing I can think of is the valve is getting stuck closed. OR.......your gauge is acting up. Oil pressure rarely doesn't anything truly dramatic which is why most cars dropped the oil pressure gauge long ago.
