Default 1968 Mustang headliner and window install costs?

My '68 Mustang coupe body is finally painted. Color sanding and polishing are the next steps after the car sees some UV time. The body shop just had an interior guy come take a look at my car for a quote to install the headliner. Are you ready for this???? $750.00 The glass is out of the car, I'm supplying the stock style headliner, and the old headliner was removed by the body shop. $750 to install the headliner sounds way high to me. We are now looking for another person to come out for a quote.

What seems to be a fair price for a headliner install?

I'm also getting a quote soon for front and rear glass install with S.S. window trim install as well. I'm supplying all the parts (gaskets, glass, and window trim retainers). Anyone have some recent numbers for similar window installs?

The car is near San Jose, CA. Inflated quotes for this area perhaps?

I had both seat redone and the headliner for $215. and some change. That is way to high. I had safelite do both of my windshields for $425. That was taking them out and putting them back in.

I wouldn't pay more than $100 for somebody to do the install if you're supplying the liner. Thats just me.

I had the one in my old Caprice replaced for $50, and that was at an interior shop.

ahh you must be at one of those "classic restoration" shops? Those guys are use to getting those kinds of prices due to their customer base.

I just had a headliner installed last year for 150.00 in a Chevelle. Windows can be an hour or half hour job at x(80/hr). I believe you need a second opinion.

Here's the update:

The glass guy is pretty reasonable with a quote of $100 for installing front and rear glass and putting the s.s. trim back.

We got a second interior guy to quote us between $300 to $350 for the headliner install.

Since the car is about 1 1/2 hrs from home and needs to be trailered, I either get it done there or bring the car back and have it done locally.

rpmcarter,
Nope, the car isn't at one of those classic car resto places. I don't know why, but interior guys around here want some serious $$$ for their work. The last interior job I had done was a few years back. I had a '76 Porsche Targa top redone and it cost $420 (and this was cheap)

You could always order the headliner and do it yourself. This would save you a butt load from the sound of it.

I agree with Zaikur. I just put in my own headliner on my 66 and it took some time, but it turned out great. I'm not sure if the 64-66 headliners are pretty close to the 67-68 ones, but with the windows out it's really not that hard. Probably take 2 1/2 hours over a 3 days time span. (It's best to let it stretch out a day before adjusting and glueing.)

I already have the headliner, but would need some glue and a few minor things.

I'm pretty confident I could do an ok job, but I can't stand wrinkled headliners. It would take me quite some time and I would ask some friends for help, but in the end, I think an experienced interior person could do a better job in a lot less time.

It's going to be a show car and occaisional weekend cruiser. If it was going to be a daily driver I would certainly give it a go.

It is not that hard to do the headliner and windows yourself if you have a helper and take your time. You will probably be able to do a pretty good job, but if you want perfection then you probably should just take a deep breath, open your wallet and have it done.
It took us about 3 hours when my son and I did The 66.
