Default Looking for headers for my '67 coupe

Hey guys,

Relatively new here. I don't want to start a big debate but how do I go about getting/researching headers for my '67 coupe. I have heard about tri-y, hedman, jba, 289 hi-po, etc..... mid-length, shorties, full length.....

I am confused!!!

Trying to do it on a budget and have 289 bored 30 over (what ever that means) with Edel intake manifold, mild cam, and Edelbrock #1406. Should I be running the stock headers?? I don't know much about this stuff, just enough to be dangerous. It's my son's first car. This is how we bought it.

Does it mean I will need a new exhaust system??

Also, can I run a new standard fuel pump or does it have to be a Edelbrock out of a catalog??

Can I put on a set of used headers?? What kind of things should I look for if they are on Craigslist??

Thanks in advance.

When you put headers on the engine they are only as good as the build of the headers and the rest of your exhaust system.
Hooker #6901 are full length, equal length (roughly) headers that will fit most applications. If you have a 4 speed forget I said anything.
To get the most from the headersyou will need to replace the exhaust system with a larger than stock free flowing exhaust system.

What trans and other accessories are on the car? This will limit your choice of headers due to fit. Is it a manual (3/4/5 speed) with clutch linkage or an auto, does it have power steering? These items are obstructions to some headers by design.
Buying headers off craigslist would be a crapshoot unless you can verify that they came off the same model mustang as the engine bay changed, the '67/'68 are the same but the car would need to have the same trans/PS or not to make sure they fit.

If you change to long, Tri-Y or shorty headers you will need to mod. the exhaust to match up at a min. but as stated above it's best to match the system. The engine should be breathing better on the intake now (bigger carb, intake, heads) and the header with larger exhaust (2 1/4 - 2 1/2") will help it expel equally.

as was said above. but do spend the extra and get them coated! extends the life of the headers greatly! and the look great too. i have always had good results with HOOKERs as paul stated.
