A long time ago( I hear myself saying that all the time!)lol
I worked in a shop years ago(~1975ish) before I knew what I wanted to do in life, and my boss had a '68 Shelby Mustang with a standard shift. I don't know how the spring came off, but it was my job to get it back on. I enjoyed using what brains I had to get things done! lol
I took the instrument dash out, and I had a brake spring return tool, and I cut off what I needed to allow enough clearance for it. I put on a really thick welding glove to protect my wrist, and I popped the spring on fairly easily.
