Default Question about "showing" my Mach... for the people that show their cars

Hello everyone.

I am thinking about some upgrades to my 1969 Mach 1 & I need some advice from people that go to the shows, or show their cars.

I bought the car to drive, but I wouldn't mind going to a local show or two just to let others see it. The car (1969 Mach1) is is excellent condition. almost all original in & out except for a couple things. It was originally a 2V, but was converted to 4V. Also, the original color was Champaign... now it is Red. It has all original body panels, frame rails, engine, and interior. The carb is a Holly.

I wanted to upgrade the front brakes to Disc & add rack & pinion, but am not sure if I should. I know that the brakes will not take away from anything, but I am affraid that if I get the rack & pinion, it will push it too far from its original status.

The reason I want the rack & pinion is because I plan on driving it alot. The sloppy original steering is the biggest problem for me. (Just so you know, the steering has been adjusted & is as good as it will get right now)

I want to know what you think I should do. Will it still be accepted to show with a rack in it?

Guys usually refer to their cars as "she" and give them feminine nicknames.
And don't all girls "show" better if they have a nice rack?

It would depend on what kind of show you wanted to enter, there are shows for just nice classics, and then there is concours shows. The number one thing is just make the car you want..take it to a show and enjoy the company of the people there, you may just pick up a peoples choice award.

at some shows, the HARD CORE people will question your motives, but don't let it bother you. it is YOUR car. enjoy!

Unless there looking under the car i doubt there going to realize anyway. Id just make it however you want it, and plus, people at local shows dont give a crap if its unoriginal or anything unless your at a serious competition. Or atleast they are at my local shows.

The only shows that true originality matter are concourse and MCA thouroghbred (sp?).

Most shows are divided into two classes, original and modified. You can normally stay in original if you have minor modifications and the car still "appears stock". Aftermarket carb, exhaust, electronic ignition, minor chrome in the engine compartment, different paint color/interior color are some of the changes you'll still see acceptable here. Sometimes an engine swap is acceptable if it was offered with the car, like a 390 swapped into place where a 289 was originally but the 390 is detailed to look "original" to the car, for example.

The modified classes are for cars with heavy engine mods, fancy paint/graphics, modified body, fancy rims, roll cages, blowers, rack and pinion.....generally moderate to major changes to the original car.

These are general rules but it really depends on who's putting the show on and how it's classes are laid out.

Cruises are just laid back gatherings without classes for the most part and any car, in any condition can be on display here. You'll see everything for highly detailed cars to weekend drivers to everyday drivers to works in progress that run and drive but have rust, mismatched body panels, primer, grungy engine compartments, incomplete/worn interior, ect.

If you plan on driving the car alot and want some upgrades then do it and enjoy it and just show the car and not worry about it.

Thanks alot everyone.

That's basically what I needed to hear. I've been to a few local car shows, but never had a car in one.
I hate to alter the car from it's original form, but in order for it to be a good driver,... I have to change a few things.

When I get "her" all done, I'll post some pics.

Thanks again for your input.
