Default 1966 long console: What goes in this hole?

The attached picture shows the plate at the front end of the glove box in a '66 long console. What is supposed to go in the pigeon or possibly cross shaped hole? The wire for the light goes around the back side and does not need to penetrate this plate. The contact for the light is a little copper spring in the top that the bulb socket fits into. I can't think of anything that would use this hole but even the repros have it.

Any ideas?

The console front compartment light goes in that hole.

Looks like a light hole to me.

That is the hole for 1964.5 cars. The light was similar to the gear selector indicator lamp, except it had a different cap to reflect the light into the box. In 65 and 66 the light was fitted in a round hole in the top of the console box.

Thanks Mike. In other words: Nothing goes in the hole on a '65 or '66. That's pretty easy. You would have thought that Ford would have invented a plug to fill the unused hole.

I knew for sure the light does NOT go there since it sits on top. Actually the hole up there in the console is 'D' shaped but the copper widget that fits into the D shape has a round hole for the light socket.

Question: The top D-shaped copper widget holding the lamp socket also acts as the ground contact for the lamp. When the door is opened it shorts the lamp socket to ground through a finger on the copper holder. What did the 64.5 use as a switch for their style of light?

OK, just answered my own question. It took a while but a search revealed a Veronica answer about the 64.5 console lights. They didn't have a separate switch for the console light.

"If the light on yours is mounted to the back of the console compartment it is supposed to come on when you turn the key on."

This thread also has pix of the copper light holding widget, etc.

Wow this is another one of those weird 1964 1/2 things? So cool.
