Default 1966 Mustang Amber Turn Signal Lens

Does anybody know where I can find a cheap original 66 turn signal lens for my front valance or have a spare that they are willing to part with? I was moving some parts around my garage and I knocked over my front valance. (My fenders, valance, bumper, everything but the hood is off of the front while I fix my engine & repaint my engine bay) When it fell it smacked the driver side parking lamp and it cracked the lens. I have a spare lens, the only problem is, the spare is an original dark amber lens and the lamps on my car are reproductions with really light, almost see through lenses. Thanks.

I might still have the originals off my 66 but I'll need to plow through the spare parts box tomorrow morning - too darn hot in the garage right now!

I have a similar problem in that a Ford replacement from 25 years ago I bought ro replace a cracked lens is a lighter colour. I intend to, but have not yet gotten around to boiling the new one in orange Rit dye. I have used that method to darken faded lenses on other cars and hope it will help equalize the colour on these as well. Since this one was originally lighter and not faded the dye routine might not work but I think its worth a try.

As a last resort, new ones are only $4 so a couple of new ones would at least make them look the same if the dye fails.

Ivy66GT, I don't want to keep a cracked lens on, plus there would be a noticeable difference. The original lens has the part number and the FoMoCo circle script on it, where as the newer reproduction lenses are completely unmarked.

snaranjo, I would really appreciate that, thanks.

If he doesn't I may be able to come up with a FoMoCo one... it would need cleaned with some compound, but un cracked...

I thought you had a replacement already that you wanted to match. The dye should help make them match.

I have an original, made and sold by Ford lens still in its blue Ford box with the script and everything molded in bought from a Ford dealer in c1983. Its a much lighter shade of amber than the original cracked, or uncracked ones on my cars. So a scripted lens isn't necessarily the only thing to look for in solving your problem. You want a matched pair.

I haven't bought one, but according to this, your problems may be easier to fix than you thought.

66Sprint, here is a pic of my original lens. Obviously they faded differentially but to my knowledge are the original pieces. They would cearly need some clean-up and polishing to remove the haze of 43 years!

My replacements from VCM have the FoMoCo logo so like IvyGT says you can retain the stock look in a new piece.

If you are interested in mine let me know by PM and we can work out a deal. I'm not looking to make money on them given their condition Steve

Steve,

That is about the difference in color I have for my original (?) lenses and a 'new', later 1980s Ford replacement. Your lighter one may just be a Ford replacement from years ago; they all had the same markings. I doubt Ford was paying much attention to the actual shade of amber over the years. With any other car I have ever owned the lenses fade to a lighter shade with time, not turn darker.

BTW, does the VCM part also have the SAE number molded in?
