Default 1967 Mustang California....No Smog Pump?

So i've owned a couple 67 mustangs from San Jose California....all 289's......And they all have had Smog Pumps........What i need to know is if They produced any 1967 mustang's out of San Jose that did not have smog pumps?? and if so is it rare??

Found another project...and was said to be the original 289 engine /heads but there was no spot in the head for a smog pump,???..
I just figured its not the original motor...but the guy is very persistent.

Any comments back are appreciated.....Thanks Guys.

I guess it really doesn't matter where they were assembled but what state they were going to be used in. Big difference in the smog equipment and what was required in the other 49 states.

My 68 is a San Jose built car and sold from a dealer in Costa Mesa (near LA, DSO 71) and the original 289 in my car never had a smog pump either and my car is CA built and sold there. So, yes, I would say there were definitely some cars that didn't get the smog pump.

Someone I know used to have a 68 fastback 289 here in CT, and the funny thing is it had a smog pump on it, DSO 13 and originally sold here right where I live in Watertown, CT.

I have yet to ever figure out the smog pump requirements, as it seems some cars *should* have come with them and other that *shouldn't* have required them had them.

Trying to find my father's 1973 Mustang Grande he bought brand new. 3F04F126773 last known registration and title was in New Jersey, 1982.

I think it was 67 or 68 all cars had to run one.A friend of mine has a newer chevy truck the dash has a switch to run the cali smog tune or standard tune.

According to the Mustang Restoration Guide, all 1966-67 Mustang's sold in California recieved a smog pump with 200-302 engines. 1968 all big blocks got the smog pumps.

According to the Book "Mustang Does it" 1966 there were some exceptions for the smog pump not being installed after January 1st 1966, however, it is unclear on what cars did not have the pumps installed. It seems from photos that Shelby's did not get the smog equipment, howevre, K Codes still did.

My car was built in San Jose (OK, let's be honest here, it's in Milpitas, not San Jose - but I'm a biased Milpitas native), and AFAIK, it was sold in Los Angeles and lived in Bakersfield, CA when be bought it. The engine was all original, as far as we could tell, and we never saw a hint of smog pump action. Never checked the DSO, though, so I could be wrong about it having been sold in Los Angeles. It did, however, have some box obviously and clumsily added later on called an ElectroNox.
