Default Whoops!!! Broke the Windshield

Well today while removing the windshield on my sons 66 convt. To get access to remove the cowl to repair the dreaded air intakes, everything was going smooth. Windshield was just about out and pop. So much for saving it. Of coarse it came out without any issues after that. Anyway we almost have the cowl out, a few more spot welds to drill and then we can start on rust removal and floor pans. Then start doing some body work on this pony.

On another note what would you all do with a seized motor. Had a few cylinders filled with water for 5 or 7 yrs. freezing conditions in the winter. What parts would you try to salvage if any?

Thanks Ed

I would take the block to the machine shop and let them bore the block. The usually charge $5.00 per hole. Have them hot tank everything else and go from there unless you just want to buy a new engine.

It's unfortunate that the front windshield broke trying to remove it. Do you know if it broke because the seal was not sufficiently loosened before you attempted to remove it?

I plan on removing mine soon to replace the seal and don't want to break it.

Well I thought it was loose enough. I cut the seal and one side broke free right away the otherside was still getting hung up a little not a lot and I didn't think the pressure I was putting on it was to much but apparently it was. I would say just make sure you don't have to put any pressure on it to get it out. Check and recheck. Good luck

Don't feel bad...I've had my windsheild out of my '65 for 3 years and propped up against the garage wall. Then I decided to clean the garage and the winshield didn't make it! Some clutter fell on it and split it every which way. After three years on the floor with no harm then this happens.

I wonder if the windshield glass gets somewhat brittle with age.

I'll make it a 2 man project removing mine.
