Default 1968 mustang convertible, make to restomod, or keep original?

So I just purchased a 1968 mustang convertible, had in shipped to San Diego all the way from Ney Jersey. From the second i saw it get off the trailer I was amazed by the appearance of it. The car is acapulco blue, white top(which is electronically operated), delux blue interior, automatic, with inline 6. Everything seems to match to the vin number, and from what i can see the only thing that has been modified is the radio.

Looked inside the engine compartment and all the decals from factory are still in place, original hub caps, all the interioir is still intact and not faded away, just some need of attention. I have never seen a mustang so unmolested, like this one. I was thinking what to do to this car, Ive seen some nice restomods, and then again the originality of this car is also amazing.

What would happen to the price, and originality if the car was to be made a restomod, or kept original? And if i was to keep it original how do i go to find if the tranny and engine are still from the car? Any places that I could rely on to paint it back to the factory color?

I would think not much would happen to the price. It's a 6 cylinder, and as far as being collectable as concours I don't believe it it would bad to restomod. But it's up to you. I pondered the same when I bought my 99 Cobra. And the guy who's building the car below asked me "are you buying it for you or someone else? If for you, do what makes you happy.". I know a 68 vert would make one heck of a restomod...... see below it's a 67 vert. Unfinished but still evil. Done by SVP Unlimited in Alabama. It's going to be a GT500 clone when done, but with an 03 Cobra motor and butt loads of custom stuff.

hmm, make it an inline 6 twin turbo, take off the factory brake pedal, get a new pedal and hack it so u can convert to stick with a new clutch pedal, keep all ur stock parts and mod it like crazy. itll be worth way more that way, cuz its legit. just what i think.

mines a t code too.

A covertible is worth the same inline 6 and v8 so its your car do whatever makes you happy. Most of us stick to the bolt on rule so later on you can put it back if you want.

Boyd Coddington once said "Anyone can restore a car, it takes a real man to cut one up." (or something to that effect) I don't think I'm quite man enough to cut up a nice rag top. Stick to the bolt on stuff.

A true V8 convertible is worth more than a 6 banger, and a nicely done swaped car will bring more than the same car with a 6. I always tell people to build what they want. If you want to keep it a 6 but want more power drop a Supra or GTR motor in you can get them for about $3,000 with the tranny from a importer that will piss some people off, but if you like it that is all that matters.

Perhaps out in your neck of the woods, but here in California pop on craigslist, ebay, or autotrader, the average price of a V8 Convertible (factory v8) is between $8,000 (project) to $30,000 for a restored car. You can buy a very nice clean 6 cylinder driver for around $13,000-$16,000 all day long. Cars that are converted to V8 fall inbetween the two.
