Default 1970 Mustang Convertible Possible Restore

Hey All,

I came across a guy in work who wants to sell me a 1970 mustang convertible project car for restoration. He says 90% of the body work is done (I think the rear quarters are the only piece needing work), and he has most of all the parts to put the car back together as is. It's currently a I6 but if I were to take it on, I'd turn it into a Boss 302 clone. He gave me some pics of the car and I wanted to share them with you and get everyone's opinion. I've always wanted to restore a Mustang, I just don't want to get myself in over my head with a car that's not particularly ideal for restoration. Oh yeah, he's willing to sell me the car for $1500. Take a look and let me here your thoughts. Also, any idea what I'd be looking as for cost of repairing the rear inner fender wells? (You can see a hole through from the interior to the wheel well) Thanks!

Hi, well it looks like a chore and a half for you. I am in the deconstruction part of my full restoration. Its a lot of work. Make sure you crawl under the car with a flashlight and check everything. From the torque boxes to the frame rails. Make sure it has not been in a crash that caused damage. Like I found last night. If you are doing the restoration yourself you are going to have to have mechanic skills as well as metal working and the like. I have been doing it for 15+ years and I learn new stuff all the time and have to buy tools all the time as well. Well good luck. here are some photos of mine, more will be comming soon.

"He says 90% of the body work is done"

From those pics it looks like zero body work has been done. It does not look like a bad deal for $1,500 but, I would really check for hidden rust.

I was going to say the exact same thing. I would buy it for $1,500 easily but it looks like a project ready to be started, not one with anything done besides some disassembly.

$1500 is a steal. The quarters are only $89.95 a piece. The car is pretty much stripped. All you have to do is have it blasted for a couple hundred dollars. But you are going to have to invest $5,000 to $10,000 to get back to its glory.

If you think $1500 is too much, check out what this CA company is selling for $2000:
