Default 1965 Mustang-need help with charging system....

gennerally mu 65 mustang starts easily but after it runs for a while and i turn it off then try to restart it it sounds like the battery is draining ,it whirs whirs and whird then finally starts. whats wrong? is it my alternator?it starts fine cold but after running awhile it starts this stuff after shutting it down its kind of embarrassing. it sounds like its trying to start then finally catches and all is well

Hello. Assuming that the timing is set correctly on your car and the battery cables and starter cable are in good condition with good clean connections, that sounds like the starter itself is going out on you. A starter that's about to fail will do that when it gets hot.

could a failing starter be a reason for bogging down?

do you have an exhaust leak that could be throwing heat on the starter and making it fail,
