Default Upgrade for C6 transmission

Anybody know of a "drop-in" replacement for the C6 transmission? Is there a 5 or even 6-speed automatic that has the same basic envelope dimensions? Looking to replace the C6 in a car that has a driveshaft that is only 18 inches long but would like a tranny that is more efficient.

Only thing i can think of is a fmx but its a down grade. Is your car a big block or small if its a small i would look in to a aod or 4r70w off a v6 mustang will work but you'll have to make the cross member to hold it.

AOD bolts in where-ever a c6 was (as long as its a small block c6) and will give you the 4th over drive gear

Are all the 4R70W's computer controlled or is it just the later ones?
