Default Any tips on reupholstering 1967 Mustang bucket seats?

I am planning on reupholstering the two front bucket seats this weekend and I was wondering if anyone who has done it before can tell me:
1) How difficult it is and if it is really worth the effort?
2) Any tips or suggestions?
I bought new vinyl upholstery and new foam for both seats.

Have someone help you. The extra set of hands are great to pull or compress the cover as you hog ring it on.

Take your time

It will be very tight getting the new cover over the new foam. You can use a thin plastic bag over the foam and the new cover will slide on easily. You trim the bag up as far as you can before you hog ring it in place.

Here are pictures from when we did The 66:

One tip I read was to use safety wire to attach the stringers after you feed them through the seat rib sleeves to pull tight. Once you have all the stringers wired taught with safety wire attach the hog rings and cut the safety wire loose.
Also lay the new upholstery out in the sun for as many hours as you can to loosen it up.

I feel my experience was maybe not so typical, or how hard it is to do is very overstated. I did mine in my basement, in the middle of winter. Obvoiusly, this time of the year you can use the sun to heat the vinyl up, but a hair dryer will do the trick.

Take your time, work them on, it really wasn't that bad.

I also found that reading everything about it was a great start, but really, until I dug into the project, I couldn't truly understand what people were talking about with their past experience doing it.

Once you dig into it, if you are at least competent with your hands, you will be able to overcome any difficulties-

Look at my pics on my site, see the link below, it can be done, and most I tell the seats were redone think I had them done professionially.

Default Seats are finished and they look great :)

Thanks again for the great suggestions. It was not the easiest thing to do but was not too bad either. I ended up with bruised knuckles, soar wrists and fingers. Overall, it came out great. The two most valuable tips:
1) leave the vinyl in the sun
2) Use wire hanger for listing.
I also found this website helpful.

Nice Job! Now enjoy all the compliments and the satisfaction of telling people you did them yourself.

Also, any thing you don't like about them, if the seams were a bit crooked, etc, by using them and the heat this time of year, that will work right out.

Enjoy- know you saved the money- to soon be spent on another part of the car!!

(Ask me- I know)
