1965-66 Shelby GT350-R models got a Shelby 160 Speedo, and I am sure they could use it. Standard GT350's got standard Mustang guages that maxed out at 140.

In 1967/68 the Shelby's got 140 Speedos, while the standard Mustang got a 120 (140 was an option)

In 1969/1970 Standard Speedo was 120, while Shelby's and other performance Mustangs got the 140 speed.

1971-1973 the 120 is standard with no option for a higher one, even models like the Boss 351 got the 120 speedo.

Still better then the fox body cars with the 85 MPH speedo.

Over 100mph the front end starts to get light and lift off the ground over 130 you have almost no steering at all don't ask how i know. But the real gt500 super snake did about 170 on a banked track shelby was testing tires for good year in it.He had a avg speed of 142mph tho.If you want a 140 speedo Tachometer Repair Restoration for Ford Classic Cars

anything over about a hundred is a little fast in a classic, yes it may be possible to reach 140 or so, but safely?...steering becomes quite an issue as andrew says

A chin spoiler does help over 100mph but not a whole lot.

You would really need to work on the car to get it to handle those speeds. I am looking at building a land speed car for the salt and I am looking at a 1965 Mustang with fiberfab front end.

Default Speedometers

I have had two classic Mustangs, both with 140 speedometers and neither would come close to maxing them out.
The kicker is that my fastest Mustang, an 85 GT also had the least numbers on the dial, 85mph. I made up a chart showing my approximate speeds at the various RPMs and kinda' used my tach as a speedometer. Although Road N Track tested an 85 at 142mph, the best mine would do was about 135 (it had about 90,000 miles on it at the time).
