Default what to do to a 1966 mustang

Hey guys i have a 1966 mustang coming out of the body shop soon. i want to keep it mostly original....my thoughts of its exterior is black paint with low profile tires and black rims smoked tail lights tinted windows smoked head lights..with chrome exhaust tips..For the interior all black..For the motor however i know that stock 289 2v motors came with only 200 hp i have no idea how much of that is put to the ground but id like to get it up to 300 horsepower without boring the engine.. Any ideas on how i could improve by 100 horspower with just basic items and not a complete boring of the motor.. For about 1500 is there any way to raise the hp by 100 but in a healthy way for the motor since im not going to bore it or change manifolds. Also any tips for exhuast im thinking cherry bomb... let me know about your thoughtsss ....thanksss!!!

Welcome and congrats, your biggest jump will come from better aftermarket alum. heads, the stockers are real restrictive. Of course you'll want to switch to an alum. 4 bbl. intake and carb. otherwise the new heads will be a waste. After that headers and 2 1/2" exhaust will help get the gases out. A cam upgrade will give a nice improvement while you have the heads off since the lifters will be out at that time. You can find some used heads for $1K usually.

Here's some head flow numbers:

Only other choice for quick 100hp is NO2, Turbo or supercharger. You have to be careful what you're compression ratio is with any of those and they can be more costly.

Default another question..?

i aprreciate your help but.. with alum heads,4bbl intake and carb and exhaust with headers and cam..how much would that cost me and how much will that improve my horspower from a current 200.One more thing since im not broing my motor keeping it just like it is now will my engine run well without a bored motor or will it be no use because my motor is not bored.Thankssss get back to me
