Default 1973 Mustang Clock - question

I recently purchased a 1973 Mustang Convertible.. Looking at pictures on this site as well as others I have not seen any Mustang with the same clock as the one that is in my car..

Is this an after market clock or was it an option??

I have to pull it out as it not functioning at the moment.. needs to be cleaned as well.

The console was optional with a clock, my neigbor's 72 Mach 1 has one in it's console, but it isn't that type of clock. It is a normal analog clock. I have never seen that type in a Mustang.

Here is a picture of the type of clock. If you want here is a link to it on ebay.

71-73 Mustang Cougar Console Clock Mach I 71 72 73:eBay Motors (item 220470587287 end time Aug-30-09 16:02:09 PDT)

That's a really good price for the clock too.

Try taking your clock out and look for a FoMo stamp and some numbers on it.

Maybe it was from a different ford, one of the higher up models like the LTD.

I thought about this and looked at the Mustang II thinking if the clock was replaced a few years later they might have just thrown a newer clock in.. and from what I can find it does indeed look like thats where its from.

found this image of a 77 mach 1.. my car also seems to have the steering wheel as well.

It is a Ford Part, be it dealer installed or not I could not tell you. The same clock was used until the early 80's in Full Size Fords and Mercurys. My friend had a 1975 Mercury with the same clock. It may have been a dealer installed option, or over the years someone could have just pulled it out of another Ford and removed the blockoff plate. Also it could have been that the factory clock stopped working and it was replaced with the current version of the Ford clock at the time.
