Unhappy death of a pony hopfully rebirth as a stampeding mustang

i live in the san fernando valley in cali i am the proud owner of a 1971 fastback mustang my young pony was getting me around town with a 302 2 barrel carb all stock she been around the block a few times well 900+ miles to be honest lol well she always ran her heart out for me but last night as i left my gurls house i stopped at a red light
and my car turned off which was odd because she had never done that before on me so i turned her back on as the light turned green and i drove about 50 feet then i see smoke so i stop in the middle of the street as im getting out fire shoots out of the ram air hole on my hood(mach1style) so i run pop the hood the whole engine is on fire i take my shirt off i try the best i can to put it out doesnt work its 4 in the morning and there no cars anywhere and im in a major street one guy stops to help me with a blanket he had we just couldnt stop it she burned for a good 5 mins till a tow truck was driving by and used a fire extinguisher all my wires on the enigne are gone its sad to me that she went down like that but hopfully i see this a sign to bulid her stronger then before ill tell u this much she didnt go down easy lol like i said hopfully the death of my pony will bring the birth of my stampeding mustang lol got have a lil hope right

Sorry to hear about your Mustang. On my maiden voyage with my 67 Fastback after I converted froma 6 to a 8,I used a different alternator and somethingwent nuts and shorted.Had a small fire that we got out.I had quite the lump in my throat after that.I think I would have cried if it would have been a hard burn.We got it all worked out now.At least yours did'nt wind up like the 68 Fastback I just bought. This car had 250 miles on it after all of the work someone put into it.This was a hard burn.

Wow, that is really sad. I feel for ya! Give it a while and you'll be ready to jump in and fix it right! I used an ezwiring harness from ezwiring.com to rewire mine from headlight to tail light with the mini-fuse box. Lots of extras and low cost at around $160 or so. Give it a look when you are ready and see if that helps a little. I've rewired my '66/5.0 HO/AOD and also my '56 cheby pickup with a 350/350 combo and it really works good. Good luck, gary.

You need to find out whats burn and start cleaning it up.Check every inch of wire under the hood and go on from there.I wasn't that lucky mine when i got on it the fuel line popped off spraying everywhere i had to buy a new hood carb dizzy and a lot of small stuff.
