Default Any Cleveland Guru's in Here??

Hello to all the Cleveland junkies. I am a Windsor man.I have never owned a Cleveland till a few weeks ago.I bought a burned up 68 Fastback Elenore clone that has a 351 Cleveland,Top loader combo. I was told that the Block is a CJ Block.I can not make out the casting numbers as they are all blobed together.I wire brushed them and still can not make them out.It is a factory 4 bolt block though.Should I be able to determine what it is by a casting date?? Also I can get some pics of the heads if need be but the are definetly 4V heads by port size.I believe they are what the Cleveland guys refer to Quench heads. They are not open chambers. It appears to me that somone ground down the casting numbers as there are none to be found. And lastly what is this stuff worth in todays economy. The shortblock consists of .030 over TRW Forged flat tops with a 1.5cc dish and a small Isky cam.I believe they are stock rods and crank. It has a Offenhauser Dual Port Intake. I don't know if I am going to keep this stuff or not.A handfull of pepole have told there is a short stack of money there. Any help will be greatly appreciated. All this stuff has only about 250 miles on it.The car was beautiful when it was finished. They had alot of money into it.Some sort of Electrical fire brought it to it's demise

67 Fastback, I have a cleveland in my 68 fastback. i also have an assortment of clevleand blocks and heads. As far your wanting to know how to tell if your 351C is a CJ will require you to determine the casting number on the block. the build date wont necessarily tell you. as far as Value ? To be honest, I have an unmolested 315C HO and its worth maybe $750 tops and thats only to the date code correct guys. If you cant determine the casting number, then you will be limited to some body looking for a 4-bolt main 351C. And irregardless what anybody tells you, a 2-bolt main is just as strong as a 4-bolt. It just mental thing with some.

Bottom line, if your thinking it may have some similar value as a 428CJ, its just not there. The 351C 4-V is an excellant motor. Breaths better than most any ford stock motor made.

Congratulations on your purchase and good luck as you get in to it. I absolutely love the 67 - 68 fastback body style

Thanks for the response.I know the 351 CJ stuff is not as valueble as the 428 CJ stuff.I have a friend that is putting together a 68 1/2 CJ and some of the stuff he has bought and paid for makes you wonder if he's sane or not.I have seen prices as high as $2K for a 4 bolt block on Ebay.I just did'nt know if that was normal or not. This is my first Cleveland Experience so I am learning more and more every day.I thought about Selling the stuff to put together a Windsor but I already have the headers,Exhaust,Mounts.....I am going to run it someday to see what it's got. Truth be told I have $1500 into the whole torched car.All of the suspension is salvageable,Brakes,Wheels,Drivetrain,Etc.My plan is to have all of the stuff on my 68 Coupe that needs restoration.I like the fastbacks as well but I love the coupes when done right.Alot of people don't suspect them. Heres a list of all the stuff that can be salvaged.
T.C.I. (Total Cost Involved)- Front Mustang II suspension with tubular upper and lower control arms,Coilovers,Wilwood brakes,Power rack and pinion conversion.Rear TCI 3 link suspension with torque arm, coilovers, wilwood brakes,9 inch with 3.50 gear. Then of course the 351 4 bolt and a toploader with a new centerforce dual friction clutch. And a set of 4 Carrol Shelby CS66 20 inch wheels. Don't worry the 20's will never see another classic Mustang again but I might put new rubber on them and put them on my 06 GT-H. All in all I think I will get my $1500 worth out of the burn victim.

Thanks,
James

It amy not be as valuable but it is still expensive. Your heads should have a 4V in the corners. If not look at the exhaust ports. You will be able to get almost 4 fingers in her. They will be more of a ofset square instead of an oval. If I had the car, I would have the car blasted and go from there.
