Cool 1964.5 mustang data plate help

Hi new to the threads and the wonderful world of owning a classic pony. The car was bought without a door data plate and I would like to add one if possible but I am missing some important information. Hopefully the wonderful members her could be of some assistance. The VIN number is 5F07D211372. I was able to use a VIN decoder to decifer it but the things I am missing are...Date code, DSO code, and Axel ratio code. It currently is painted I believed rangoon red with white racing stripes and has a red/white interior. I suspect these details to not be original but if possible it would be nice to see what the original would have been and what the new codes for these details are. Thank you in advance!

Hello. The scheduled production date of your car would have been either 21G or 24G, but my money would be on 24G, which is August 24th of 64. The D.S.O. is lost forever, unless you get lucky and find an original build sheet or window sticker in the car somewhere. Your rear axle had a tag on it when it left the factory, which has the axle ratio on it. It also has a date code, so you can see if it's still the original rear end, but, the D code cars all came with an 8 inch rear end with a 3.00:1 axle ratio, which would be 1 on the door tag. The transmission also had a tag on it. If that's still there it would tell you what you need to know.

Ford did not have build sheets for the "early" Mustangs. They didn't start until the end of 64 when the 65's were in production.

As for the rest of your numbers and making a new data/warranty tag - make sure that when/if you find the true numbers that you use the correct font to stamp the plate as I have been findidng many "reproduction" data plates with "funny" stampings.

In reality, and I'm sure to your dismay, you will not probably ever really find the true data - but if you get a copy of Jim Smart and Jim Haskell's book - "In Search of Mustangs" - you may get lucky and find that a dealer ordered a group of Mustangs that were very simular.

This is only a suggestion but every little bit helps.

Rick

Default fonts?

Rick - I will definitely look that up...but what do you mean by correct fonts? This is my first classic and I am learning as I go although finding it easy to do all the work myself except for stuff I need a lift for.

Still not sure as to what you mean by correct font to stamp it. If you could shed some light on this that would be great!
