Default 1966 Mustang trailer hitch question

Ok guys, here's one for you. I just bought an ORIGINAL 1966 trailer hitch for my car. It will be here in a couple weeks, then my car will be here in about a month. But here is the thing, it doesn't have any wiring. Now the problem with that is the government (and I) want whatever trailer that I'm towing to have its lights working. The only problem there is, I don't know how I would do that. Can anybody help? Thanks, Michael.

Hello. I'm sure that you've already thought through how actually trying to pull a trailer with a 40+ year old unibody car is probably going to pull the car apart, so, we won't need to get into that. The easiest way to do it would be to buy another taillight harrness, butt-splice it into the taillight harness of the car, color to color, near one of those clips that holds it onto the lip of the driver's side of the trunk opening, clip the wires on the rearward side of the new taillight harness, and attach the appropriate plug connector for the trailer lights to the rearward end of the new taillight harness.

Thanks Veronica. And I have thought ALOT about the damage towing could do to my 43 year old six banger Mustang. But after careful inspection and finding that my floors, and framerails had absolutely NO rot I decided it would be ok. And it wouldn't be hauling another car or anything. Just one of those tiny Uhaul box trailers as I am in college now, or my friends motorbike on its tiny trailer. So I did think this through (for once).
