Question Rocker Body Panel Molding Application

Hi all...

I've purchased some new rocker body molding and I can not figure out how to clip them on to the existing brackets. I had a body shop paint the car recently and they painted right over the clips rather than taking them off and I'm wondering if this is part of the problem. Either that or I'm just clueless as to how these hook in. I tried just pushing it on to make it snap on, but no go.. I haven't tried sliding it all the way from the beginning but looks like I'd have to take the rear tires off to get the room to slide them on... also I'm afraid of scratching the paint as it slides on...

Am I missing something or is that how to do it?

I have new clips but I don't know how to put on the rivet looking fasteners that came with it...

Thanks....
Andrew

The moldings do snap over the brackets. When I put mine back on the car after 14 years off, I put the top on first and snapped it over the bottom. At the front and rear should be a different bracket with a threaded part, that bracket snaps in to the molding before you put it on. You may have to move this around a little so that it will line up with the hole.

As for the rivets, you can drill out the existing rivets to take off the brackets. A $10 pop rivet gun from your local hardware store is all you need to put them back on.
