Hey I have a '87 302 with a comp cam, edelbrock intake, GT40 heads and a bunch of other stuff. What kind of carb and how many CFM would you recommend for me? My Holley crapped out and I cant run the car without a new one. I was told that I should get a 650 CFM carb with mechanical secondaries and no/or/manual choke, and thats what i'll probably do, but I'm worried about overcarbing... Any suggestions? I'm looking at the Barry Grant DeMons, Quick Fuels, and the Holleys.
Cant go wrong with a 650 holley mechanical secondary. Unless you drag the car them i would recommend a double pumper 750 Holley. Works perfect for my little drag car.

Hi! You didn't say how the car is used. If it's for street, 650 might be a tad large, and 750 is way too big. 600cfm is probably about right, and you will need a choke if its for the street.

Yeah 600 should be perfect for that set up

I pretty much have the same setup you have. my 650 holley worked good. I thought.. Till it crapped out and i put the 750 holley proform double pumper on there and gained .3 tenths. Big difference. I dont care what anybody else says with a 600 cfm carb your not gonna get the best perforamce out of you engine..But my opinion 650cfm carb is best for everday driving and then you drive it to the track and lay some good numbers down.

I'll be using the car for the street, with occasional track appearances. I was thinking 650 would be a bit large, but I guess thats as far as it would go for me.
If its going to the track, and really winding up the motor, a 650 may be ideal. A 600 will still do the trick but i feel that you have enough mods to run a larger carb.

Well everyone, I've decided on a carb. I just got a Holley 650 Double Pumper with Mechanical Secondaries and a Manual Choke used, but in awesome condition. I'm gonna see how it works with my application, and then update in the future for anyone who has a similar setup and a is debating on a carb just like I was.
quick point I have a 700 cfm holly on a stock 460 and I do a LOT of plug changes,, Way too much carb for street only,600 cfm does way better, however when used on a high comp. windsor with a good head port and shorties with a performer intake the 700 does quite well on the strip
Personally, for a setup that is primarily for the street, I stay away from mechanical secondaries and double accel pumps. Vacuum secondaries are easily tunable and won't open unless they're really needed. That second accel pump sure won't help mpg on the street either. Just my two cents.

I have a similar setup (302, afr165s, f cam, roller rockers, stealth intake, headers) it ran pretty good with a v.s. demon 650, but runs even better with an edelbrock 600. On the street, the demon ran well but only got @11mpg - with the edelbrock it has better throttle response around town and is getting @ 16-17mpg pulling holeshots on the freeway. I didn't notice a huge difference WOT. It feels like theres another 25 horse in there somewhere if i can figure out how to tune it right.
