Default HELP! What color shall I paint.

Hey everyone, new to the forum and new to being a mustang owner.

I have started with a simple project, 1969 Fastback, 302-4V, straight body with NO rust but needs paint and some minor fixes.

The car is currently some awful shade of red (see pictures). Originally I thought the data plate read color code 'D' which depending on who you asked was Pastel Gray or Acapulco Blue (these color codes were a little confusing for 1969).

I have since found out (thanks Mr. Marti) much to my surprise the original color was BLACK JADE.

The car needs to be repainted. Going all original is kinda boring as it did not come out of the factory with anything cool. So, I am thinking of going Boss 429 clone without the decals. I want something nice looking but also do not want to detract from the value any either. Cake and eat it too, right!

What do you think? Go back to Black Jade? Go crazy with another color?
HELP!!!!

Kinda tough to say, you don't mention what colors you like and don't like. That should help narrow it down a bit. You may also like only certain shades of a particular color.

Keep in mind that custom mixed colors are harder to touch up if need be and will your car be a "driver" or just "show car".

Here's pics of a Black Jade 69 Sportsroof,
Exterior Assembly - Part 22
Final Completion - Part 25

Here's a link to pics of the colors available in 69, 1969 Mustang Colors

These are just some ideas to throw out there. You may see paint on any car out there and want it, then just go to a paint supplier and look at the color chips for the make and year of the vehicle you saw. If it's a new car on a lot you can just look at the window sticker.

Hopefully a 1969 convertible or Sportsroof (non Mach or Boss) for next Mustang project

Trying to find my father's 1973 Mustang Grande he bought brand new. 3F04F126773 last known registration and title was in New Jersey, 1982.

As long as you do a good job painting I don't think you will adversely effect the value. I would recommend finding someone who can give you a mock-up of your car in a variety of colors before you spend the time and money painting it. You may spend a couple hundred bucks getting it done but that's WAY better than painting the car and finding out you don't like it.

Hell, for a couple hundred, I'd do it for you. Let me know if that's something you're interested in.

When in doubt, paint it black! Make sure the body work is done correctly or else it will stick out like a sore thumb.

Thanks for the comments.

Jay, that has been half of the problem, figuring out what I like!!! Candy apple red has always been one of my favorites.

Since I have a Fastback and not a Mach 1 or Boss, going custom should not do too much to the value.

Throwing around the idea of Candy Apple Red with white GT stripes. Have never seen a 69 Fastback done that way. Throw on a BOSS 429 hood scoop and maybe the Shelby side scoops on the roof line.

Thanks for the offer derfiticulum. I actually purchased a scale kit to try some different pains with. If anyone has a good black and white rendering or line art of a 69 Fastback let me know. I could do some graphic mock ups also.
