Just looking to see if what I am asking is just too much. I have a 1966 Mustang for sale in the classified section. I have posted it on craigslist and have tried eBay as well. I have gotten some interest on it but no one wanting to give me anywhere near my asking price. The car is such a great car and don't want to let it go but tough times are here and I have to sell it. Any suggestions?
Your '66 is definately nice. I'm not sure if your asking too much. I would compare with other models of the same/similar year and the shape they're in and what is being asked for those. Have you put a lot of money into yours?
Thanks for the reply, The Blue 302. It is definitely a nice car. I bought it off a collector in Dallas TX. The car has been in Texas most of it's life and we are the third owners. We were told that the millage is original at 107,000 (now has 109,000) but can not confirm or deny it. From the looks of the car it has had only one re-paint and the interior redone (new headliner, sun visors, seat covers front and back, and new dash pad. I bought this car for my wife and now we are having a baby. I have put some money into the car, mostly what I have listed on the for sale posting. I have done other things to it to like fix the passenger side interior door handle (no clip), change the oil (Mobil 1 with Lucas additive), new w/w motor and w/w bag. I have looked at other listings as of late, mostly eBay and I feel that other cars are selling between 8,900 and 11,000 for what is comparable to what I have. Hopefully the car will be sold soon and I hope that I can get another 65-66 coupe and build it for my wife, someday.
The pricing seems about right, although seeing is believing right? Buyers can be such PIA's and pick apart literally everything. I guess its about emotional attachment too other than price. Your ad is captivating, i'm sure you'll get bites very soon, have faith...
Unless you need to sell it soon, I would keep it at that price. I know that local markets vary but in Hawaii, it would be a very good deal. Point of reference, I have a relative in Northern California with a Poppy Red '65 coupe for $12.5k and they appear to be in similar condition.
Thanks guy's for the advice and compliments. It is a very nice car and I hope to sell it. It's on eBay again and I will have to see how it goes on this next round of bidding. Last time the highest bid was $4550, so that's why I asked. Thanks again.
Yea, if it drives well, no smoke, no anything bad, i could see you getting around 10k for it. Id keep it on the market at 10k obo if you would be comfortable with it. What were the offers coming in? 5k?

You know your a real GearHead when your friend tells you the IRS has really been killing him lately, and you reply, "Yeah, i prefer live axles too."
I am thinking you may be a little high, but.........
I am thinking (IMHO) you may be just a little high, but as others said, it depends on your area - I think to get the $10K + for a C-code coupe with a 3 speed you would need to have power disc brakes, and rebuilt/new front suspension.
I have seen a couple of really nice coupes with AC, PS, PB, etc. in great shape sell in the $8K - $9K range.
I would start the price at $9999 and be willing to negotiate. You will not get California prices in Texas. (especially in this economy)
Just my $.02

It seems high in my opinion, I see very nice coupes here in Southern California going for around $8,000-$8,500. There is a convertible listed that is very nice, V8 for only $14,600 so $10-11K for a coupe seems high to me.
Thanks for the reply's fellas. This car runs very well and was hoping that since it is mostly stock/orginal that it would bring more money.
Well, check this out;
Those guides are way too high - they are probably good if you need to help get a loan to purchase one of those cars (since they are high) - but that is about it.

I think the car is average retail, so that's why I wonder how accurate this reference is. What y'all think?
Hello. The problem with trying to sell 'mostly original' is that you would need to have a car that's mostly original. You have that cheap Grant steering wheel that someone would have to spend a couple of hundred bucks replacing. It looks like the driver's side fender has been replaced. You don't have any pictures of the floor pan, so a potential buyer would have to assume that some of that has been replaced. You either have the wrong seat belts or the wrong colored interior. Under the hood you have the wrong radiator, fan shroud and valve covers, which would take like another 600 bucks to make right along with a bunch of other stuff, like the export brace, plug wires, vacuum advance diaphragm housing, etc.. that wouldn't cost much individually, but there's so much of it that it would nickle and dime someone to death. Your car isn't mostly original.
I don't mean to knock your car. It is a very nice looking driver quality car that has great initial eye appeal. The car really pops. But, it also has had 'the kiss of death' bestowed upon it. It's a three speed manual. You eliminate the vast majority of potential buyers with just that. Your car would be a hard sell at 9K. Which is kind of sad, really. It looks like a really nice car.
Really nice! I'd offer you between 8500- 9500 if you were in CA. I've seen people have cars like that shape, maybe not as nice, but they are selling up near 20k. I'm like WTF?!?! hahah Very nice.
Veronica,
Thank you for the reply. I don't think you are knocking my car but giving it justified criticism that I needed to hear. How can you tell the fender was replaced? I do not know if it was or not. Are the fenders dated or have a code I can cross reference on them? As for the floor pans, they are solid and have not been replaced. I will definitely post some pics of them with the car. The three speed is one of the options that attracted me to this car being a manual shift. I guess the automatic is more desirable? To be honest, I have been a Pontiac guy almost all my life. Ask me anything about the GTO/Lemans and I could probably tell you (don't hate me). So, for having this Mustang is new territory and I am learning every day what makes this car what it is. Again, if it was financially possible to keep this car I would.
SDMustangRider,
I willing to entertain that offer.
Thanks Again,
A.J.
