Default Electronic Voltage Regulator?

Has anyone replaced their voltage regulator with the newer electronic ones. I bought one yesterday & was told they are much better than the older point type ones. Any comments on this before I install it on my 66??

If you're using your car as a daily driver, the newer electronic regulators are preferred. The only issue is that the new Motorcraft regs are (clearly) made in China and are a real downer when it comes to appearence. If your car sees limited use and/or you tend to be a purest, you may want to stay with the "blue box" repros from NPD, etc.

My local parts guy recommended a high quality, Blue Streak, model VR-166X, Electronic Voltage Regulator for my car, because the repop regulator I tried, kept the ALT light on all the time. The electronic one cured my ALT light problem. From the looks of it, the base on the new one is nearly identicle to the base on the repop. I am going to drill out the rivots on the Blue Streak and screw on the repop cover and no one will notice the difference.

Good idea. I just might do that myself, if anything, to have a look inside one.

So these are just a "Plug & Play" part? I seem to remember many years ago, that when you changed a regulator, it needed to be what they called "Polarizing". Now, that could have been with the old generators.....

I just mounted it and plugged it in and it works great!

I have one on my car. The base looks identical but the cover is alot smaller. I masked it off, painted the base silver, and then I painted the cover gloss blue.

And, dont forget, they make the "Autolite" sticker you can put on it after you make it look nice and original-cheaper than buying one with the sticker all ready on it, and most wont know the difference.
