Default 1966 Mustang Ignition Coil mounting?

On a 1966, 289 2v, where is the ignition coil supposed to be mounted originally?

Unless you are going for that original look it can be mounted anywhere as long as the wires reach.

Yes, going for the original look. Right now, it is mounted on the passenger side, right below the head. Someone told me it belongs on the left side below the head, & yet another person told me they are mounted on top of the intake near the dizzy.

Hi there. Mine is on the driver's side bolted to the front of the block just below the cylinder head. I can't swear that's where it's always been but the bracket sure looks like it belongs there.

The coil bracket I have looks correct, & could be reversed to work on the left side. I'm thinking that may be where it goes. Looks to cluttered near the hoses on the right side. Just needed confirmation on the location.

Hello. If you have a coupe or a fastback, it's mounted on the front of the block on the passenger side, below the cylinder head. The coil bracket is attached with the same bolt that holds the dipstick tube. The reason that they jambed it down in there amongst the heater hoses and dipstick tube instead of over on the driver's side where you have all the room in the world, is that, if the car was to have power steering or A/C, you couldn't put the coil over on the driver's side. If you have a convertible the coil is mounted on the top of the intake.

It was my understanding that the coil in '66 was mounted horizontally on the intake manifold, to the right side of the gas line, only on cars with the Thermactor air injection system. The Thermactor only air pump and bracket were in the way at the usual, front of the right cylinder head location. If the car had no Thermactor then the coil would have been vertically mounted with the dipstick bolt. Either way the coil was tangled in with the hoses and plug wires.

Ok, then mine is correctly installed on the right side.
As usual, thanks for the help......
