Smile Basic battery tray question

The battery tray on my 66 looks just like this: 65-66 BATTERY TRAY

I most likely will replace it, since it is the most rusty piece on the entire car. That's all I have, what brackets are suppose go with this to keep the battery in place?
There are many choices and then options as well.

They originally had this little plate that bolted onto the end closest to the alternator, and it held down a lip on the battery. Because mine is my daily driver, I picked up a 66 battery tray with the 67 style hold down.

Here is the original style. The plate is pictured right above where it is bolted down.

Beware that the '65-'66 version battery tray repros are one of the worst parts I have ever tried to use. They look great until you try to fit it then you find out it was made and welded together incorrectly with the lower bracket at the wrong angle. I could NOT get it to fit after 8 hours of work. I cleaned my rusty one and re-used it instead, at least it fit.

If you want one cheap, let me know.

Concerning the '65-'66 style hold down clamps: They are nice to look at but few batteries now are built so that the clamps, either long or short, can be used.

Ivy66GT, I had no problem getting mine in. If you want to keep your original battery tray, but have a good useable hold down you could try this.

http://www.mustangsunlimited.com/ite...p?T1=50732K+01

It bolts in underneath your battery tray, and gives you a good battery hold down.

Ok
So there was a difference in the lip or foot on the older batteries and the 66 "original" hold down will not work on today's batteries.

I see.
