1968 Mustang coupe 289 buying/building advice I'm pretty green with carburated motors, I currently drive a '94 GT, but its too computerized and definately no fun to wrench on. I really want to get into older stuff. I'm going to look a '68 coupe here this weekend to see if its worth my time. It has a 289 with an edelbrock performer intake and a 4 bbl carb, not sure yet what cfm. Its a manual, but I dont know yet if its a 3 or 4 speed. What are some things to look for in the drive train that might suggest I move on? Also, what are some pointers about making this combo tough and streetable. Not looking for a high-horse monster, just a coupe thats a fun weekend warrior/DD. Thinking about going the 331 stroker route, or should I just go with 347? I am planning on going with better heads off the bat, that's usualy a decent gain, and I'm pretty sure its got stock heads on it now. I am going to do an Arning drop on it, and probably some decent headers. Other suggestions or advice? |
