i have an opportunity to purchase a 79 indy pace car its the fox body with the pace car details and the guy claims its a factory pace car. how do i tell if this is for real? it has a 302 2 barrel and auto trans and the checkered recaro seats.is this a rare find what would a car like this be worth?

"Rarety" is tossed around a little too often when it pertains to the '79 Pace Cars. Nice unmolested '79 Pace Cars are tough to find and command a small premium. When new, they often languished on Ford dealer lots for many months before selling due to the large quantities built. You might query on information by Bill Puck from out in CO as he has the build info and documentaion on the '79 PC in his Registry.

would or should these cars come with a limited slip rear end and why only a 2 barrel carb instead of a four?

The 7.5" rear would be a Trak-Lok. The 2v Motorcraft carb was standard fare in 1979 on the 5.0L in the Mustang and Capri.

how do i tell if it has a trac lock and what is a trac lock?is it like limited slip?
