Default 68' Front End Feels Light but suspesion VERY stiff

The front end on my 68' coupe feels "light". Yet the suspension is very stiff. The car will jump around when it hits bumps and the front end almost seems to float. The shocks are KYB and look fairly new. The front springs look old but the rear are red and look fairly new. I'm thinking the guy before me set to up to handle (which it does well) rather than for a smooth ride. Are these KYB stiff shocks? All I remember using were Monroe Gas-O-Matic!! The red rear springs look like the progressive type you can get for motorcycles which for bikes are definitly stiffer. Would rather have the smooth ride. Any ideas or advice?
Thanks in advance.

Sounds like your front end is 'hunting' which may be a product of the alignment. There are different shocks and springs. Take a close look at your KYB's, there are the GR-2 which are gas but softer and there are gas-a-justs which are gas and more stiff. Count your rear leafs to see how many leafs there are 4 -4 1/2 are comfortable to most, 5 leafs are stiffer/performance vs. ride quality.

Look at the inner shock towers and see if you have an extra pair of holes 1" above where your UCA bolts stick through, they may have performed the 1" shelby/arning drop and didn't use the necessary alignment settings for this mod.

I've also had shops do an alignment and not even tighten the front strut rod nuts, take a look at those bushings also.

Thanks Jon. Turns out I had load leveler shocks in the rear with 500# springs. Changed those this morn to a standard shock and the "jumping" rear end seems to have gone away. I will check the front end this weekend.
