Default Mustang & Falcon Suspension?

Do most of the front suspension parts from a 64/65 Falcon the same as the 64/65/66 Mustang? Parts like the front springs, spindles, control arms, brakes.

My Son just bought a 64 Falcon with the 4 lug pattern, and wants to change to the 5 lug.

The rear has already been changed to 5 lug.

Seems like everything with the word "Falcon" is twice the price.

Most of the suspension parts are the same or Mustang will work. What is unique to Falcon is the springs, (although Mustang springs can work) the steering center link, steering box, and idler arm. Mustang idler arms can work if the arm on the steering box is also Mustang. Is your Falcon manual steering?

Upper and lower control arms are the same as well as tie-rod ends.

The rear axle assemblies will interchange for the rear swap, but if he still has the 6 cyl and transmission in the car you may need a new driveshaft made. Sometimes the "cross over" U-joints will work that have 2 small caps and 2 large caps. As far as I know there are not any 5 lug axles that will fit the 6 cyl rear ends.

A good place for Falcon parts is Ford Falcon Parts - FalconParts.com and I have found them to be competitive with Mustang suppliers. Your results may vary.

Are there any parts you have questions about that I haven't covered?

Thanks for this info.

The Falcon has already been changed to a 289, but not any of the front suspension, including the springs. The rear end has been changed to a V8 car.

The car sags a lot in the front. I'm thinking that is due to the original 6 cyl springs.

So, all he will need is the Mustang 5 lug spindles & Falcon V8 springs?

Also, thank you for the link

The steering linkage is different between the V8 and 6 cyl. The 6 cyl is lighter duty. I think the tie rod connections are smaller on the 6 cyl spindles than the V8 although he may be able to force the sleeves open to use V8 tie rod ends, but if it were me I'd try to get a V8 center link and sleeves as well. If that is done he would need the pitman arm and idler arm for the V8 also.

There are disc brake kits available also that would have the spindles, rotors, calipers and pads. I used Granada spindles and brakes on my Ranchero. Falconparts has the steering parts you would need, but you may need to call them for the centerlink. I'm not sure it is in their online catalog.
