Default 1967 Mustang dye interior seat ?

Howdy! My 67 has tan interior. I want to change to black. Was wondering if anyone has ever tried to dye an entire back seat black? And if so, did it come out ok? What kind of dye to use? thanks!

Upholstery kits are fairly cheap - $330 for a complete seat set at Virginia Classic Mustang. If you can afford it, I'd go that way. New headliners are just $32. Door panels are $50/pair. You can vinyl dye the armrests and dash knee pad / and A pillar pads or buy repro. The repro armrests are not like the originals. They are hard, solid plastic, instead of upholstery over foam like the originals. The repro dash knee / "A"pillar pads are the same type as the armrests.

I'd suggest you chemically strip or soft sandblast the doors/inner quarter panels, so that you do not fill in the stamped grain with paint.

You can paint your steering wheel, rather than replacing it. A friend did it on hers and it came out great!

If you buy the $7.50/ea arm rest pads from VCM they are vinyl over foam like the originals. 30 years ago the ones from Ford were $12.50/ea and not necessarily any better.

VCM's website is: virginiaclassicmustang.com

Ivy66GT, I'm glad to hear someone is making better repros. VCM '09 catalog lists them for $14.95 each now.

I did buy the armrests from VCM years ago and they were hard plastic. I didn't like them, so I returned the repro's and hunted down originals in a Mustang junkyard.

My apologies on 2 counts: First, I didn't define my TLC (three letter code) of VCM. A work associate of mine used to always make jokes about undefined TLCs especially if they were NUA (never used again).

Second, for some reason I was thinking '66, not '67. I described the current VCM offering for a '66; I even looked it again to make sure. If I need more info on a part VCM sells before I order it I call and talk to Robert. He has always been very helpful even pulling parts from the shelf to answer questions for me.

I agree, I would also return an arm rest if it were solid plastic. Now I am wondering what they sell for '67s.

The best dye i used so far is sem brand.Clean it good with soap then a grease and wax remover then dye it.Light coats and if its too black a red scrub pad will knock a little shine off.
