Default Your maiden voyage after restoration?

I'm still far from completing my '68 coupe project, but it's never too early to start considering where I'll take it for it's first drive.

My last project was a Cobra replica that I completed 5 years ago and it's maiden voyage went to a local Cobra breakfast gathering. All went well until I ran out of gas coming home on the highway because of an improperly adjusted fuel guage......the ride however, was still priceless!

Where did you take your Mustang after restoration for it's maiden voyage? For those in the process of a resto, where do you plan to take it?

I've driven mine quite a few times while being restored, but when fully completed (transmission, ac, new leaf springs, etc); I plan on taking either to North Carolina and Virginia or just for a good drive along the beach highways. Either way, It'll be for a few hours.

I made sure I took my maiden voyage on a week day just in case I had to have it towed home. I drove south from Sacramento to Lodi down highway 99. I kept it at 55 to break in my engine properly. I soon discovered that I had the wrong harmonic balancer and flexplate. So I changed both over the next month and took another maiden voyage same route and that went well.

I took my Mini down a section of Route 66 by my house. It is in the garage again getting some major work done, every time it is like a maiden voyage.

The first LEGAL drive was my son driving me down Main Street in our town> I have never seen him smile so big.
And then there was the first drive after the engine install and cam break in..

lol, when i got my car running right after it got finished with new paint, and got the cleaned up chrome back on, and new cragar wheels. i drove down my street with my cuzn in the back, and my friend up front. i was on my way to take it for a spin and show off my fresh stang and get a burger at in-n-out, when disaster struck.

as i was doing a u turn on the st in front of my house, my passenger door swung out, and my door hinge wasnt in the best condition, it swung way open till it hit against the front side fender, damaging the fender, and the door. i felt like some one just smashed my heart with a sledge hammer, a horrible, strong pressure on my chest, i wanted to cry, but couldnt, i was devastated. so bad that my pops started to cry, mom and pops seen how happy i was, when i got it back from paint and gettin her all dressed up, then seein me completely crushed.
i parked my car. next day we took it back to the dude who painted it, he was upset aswell, he fixed her up good for cheap.

this thread reminded me of a horrible time hahaha. but i look back at it, and know, some times it rains on ur parade, but u cant let it kill u. even though its ugly. but ive had more happy memories with my stang than bad so it weighs out.

hope ur maiden voyage doesnt end up like mine. titanic type sh!t lol.
