Unhappy 1966 Ford Mustang. Sad to see her go but...

Hi my name is Amber. I love Mustangs! My mom bought me a 1966 Mustang 289 about six years ago. For the first 3 years my Mom, my Dad and cruised it and played with it. It was great!! My Dad and I rebuilt the engine, put in new floor board and firewalls, put in new carpet and headliner. In 2006 I left Betty (that's her name) with my car club, The Chicago Bent Wrenches, while I volunteered for two years with the United States Peace Corps in South Africa. Upon my return to the US a few terrible things happened. My Mother passed away and my Dad got in a terrible accident. I can hardly look at Betsy without tears welling up. Not only that but my Mom left me her 2001 Ford Ranger which I have to keep up. I can't afford to keep Betsy anymore. : (

I'm unsure how much she is worth. She has been sitting for about 6 months but I start her up every once in awhile and take her for spin.
I bought her for $3200 and put $1000 plus into her. I put an add on Craigslist but didn't really like the responses I got.

Please help me.

Amber, I'm sure most of us know how you feel, but DON'T sell her. You will always regret it. And don't let the tears be of sadness, let them be from all the wonderful memories of you and your parents spending time together. Keep her and enjoy her. And when you drive her, never think of the bad, always think of the good.

If you need to sell it you may want to put it up on Ebay just as a classified to get more hits.

Amber, Keep the car. You sound young, (20s) Your car will increase in value over time. Don't worry about letting Betsy sit for a while. There's nothing you cannot buy, fix or replace on Betsy. Keep the car and one day let your kids have her.

Default keep Betsy......

Amber: Been there and done that.....ALMOST. 25 years ago, my wife and I had our first child. My 1970, my High School Car, had no AC, no p/s and a stick. Putting a child seat in and out was a real pain in the back. XLY wanted me to sell the car. Almost did, but built a garage and kept it. I still have it and am finishing up the restoration as I type.
Keep your car. It is your car, no one else can or will appreciate it as you, and the memories will be a real comfort years from now. Keep doing what your doing, run it a few times a year, remember to keep some stabil or similar product in the gas so it will not go rancid.
You will not, EVER, be able to replace her. Wash and wax here every once in a while and she will take care of you in the years to come.

ive heard stories like this, hella ppl regret selling their cars. i wont sell mine, not even if i break even( been offered 17k by some dude that had a stang when he was young, and slangd it, but regrets it alot), im broke right now, no income, but i still manage to bumb change for gas, credit card, and my insurance as im trying to get a job. sucks ur mom had to pass, but im sure she wouldnt want u to sell it, seein how it made u that happy. cars mess up time to time, but they can be fixed.
keep it and when ur old and gray, ur gonna look back and be glad that u didnt sell it, cuz really, its a piece of u.

my stang is like my child, i work on it to keep it going, and the more money i put into it the better it gets. u wouldnt sell ur child would u ?

I am sorry to hear about your situation. I'm not trying to tell you what to do, but my wife and I now have her fathers' first car which is a 67 Mustang and that car is pretty much all that connected her to her father, He passed away in 07 from cancer and we are in the process of restoring her. They shared similar memories with the car and I can see a storm of emotions coming back when we work on her, or the kids go for a ride in it. I know times are hard now, but you will regret getting rid of her. On down the line you can share those same good memories that you hadwith your dad with your kids later. Maybe the mustang club could help you keep her up. I'm sure someone around there would help you out of the kindness and admoration for the mustang. Good luck to you and God Bless
