Default 1968 Mustang Dash Pad,... Replacement or Overlay

I need a little help here. I am at the point in my restoration of replacing my dash in my 68 fastback. My dilema is i dont know if i should purchase a reproduction dash pad and paint it,... or.... buy one of the dash pad overlays and have it molded to the custom color i want which can be done for an extra charge.

I would prefer the route using the overlay becuase i can have the color i want custom molded (avoiding painting) but i have no idea what these look like or how the look when installed over the dash pad.

Has anyone out there used this overlay ? Would it be possible someone could post a photo or two so I can see how it fits / looks.

Its not a matter of saving money, i just want a very nice appearance to go with the rest of the custom interior i'm doing.

I'd buy a reproduction dashpad and vinyl dye it to the color you want. It will fit better than an overlay and look better.

What color are you going to make it?

I agree with 67ragtopStang, you will get a better fit and there for better look with the replacement dash.

I have used overlays in the past and they look good for a while, but you can see the edges, and they can warp as well on hot days.

Thanks guys, It seems the overlay is out. I will go with a good reproduction and just dye it.

I want a dark chocolate brown color for the dash. My carpet will be a dark chocolate brown. I'm doing some custom door panel skins 2-tone and the seats and remaining interior will be parchment.
