Default need some help looking at this stang

im looking at this 68 coupe mustang its a very solid car no major rust on frame or pans and the cowl is great. just surface rust on the fenders. the guy is asking 2500 and i asked if he'd take 2000 and he said he could so it. got a coupe questions thou?
1. it is at a junk yard so they dont know anything on the motor and needs some new wiring just b/c its missing things. they dont know if it runs. should i try to get it to crank over there before i buy?
2 . is there anyone out there with a 68 coupe that can tell me the first thinks to look for that will go wrong and were just how the car was in 68 that happens.
3. from what i have told is 2000 a good number or should i ask him again for less??

I know about mustangs i am currently restoring a 66 convertible but its my dads and im doing that for him and want my own so i know alot about mustangs just not 68 please if anyone can help me out that would be awesome thanksneed-some-help-looking-mustang-3mf3o53ld5o25q05sc9al19b90a3f132612a3.jpg

Well, personally I'd say for 2000 you can get much better than that. 2000 is a bit much for that car in my opinion.

Regardless, i'd say go through every bit of wiring in that car with care, make sure every inch of it is in tip top shape, or you will most likely regret it. I've seen many car owners who got similar cars and only did wire repair on visible wiring, and ended up losing their cars to electrical fires!

Given how the engine looks, i'd say there's a good chance the engine's seized up as well. so I really doubt it'd crank to begin with. Find a cheap tow

Default I think 2K is a little much -

I think $2K is a little much for this car - it appears to be a plain 302 CID - 3spd manual with AC (missing)

I would want car to be in good running condition for that kind of $$$.

You need to check some of the same problem areas that you do on a '66 - floor pans, rockers, door corners, trunk, and yes - the cowl for leaks.

there is no rust on the car except just surface rust that can be sanded off . it has a 289 in it with a 3 speed and power steering. no ac from what i can see. the the guy that has the car now says its free and turns just has never cranked it with the starter and i haven't looked at the wiring but i will be going over there probably tomorrow and look at that then

Did you pour water down the cowl vent or knock on the frame rails?Just because you don't see it don't mean its not there.

Hi: As others have said, the money you are talking would be OK for a runner. You need to verify whether or not it runs and can move under its own power before you make a final offer. And as Andrew said, it would be unlikely for a car that looks like that not to have some serious rust issues hiding out. Be careful

Looks like a $1,200 car at most. Interior looks like it has seen some weather. def. pour water in the cowl and check the frame rails as wella s floor rails. These usually rust from the inside out due to retaining water so get your finger up in the weep holes and bang on em to make sure they are solid. I picked up my 289 3 speed 68 for $3,500 earlier this year and If I put new tires on her I could register it and drive here.Super clean interior and little body rust as well. In the end the car is worth what you want it to be but shop around for awhile and do not jump on the first one. I looked for about 6-7 months until I found a good deal. 68 coupes are everywhere so not like it will be hard to find another either.
