Default Where are your speakers?

As i attempt to spend every dollar in my bank account. I am looking at getting some speakers for my 71 coupe. currently there are only 2 speakers under the back window and are hard to hear. I ordered kick panels with speaker pods but the e brake gets into the way. Is there a better place to mount speakers. My doors are covered im not sure if speakers went there. I was thinking about making bigger holes in the back and putting some 6x9 speakers but I would rather have some up front
Thanks

you can easily cut out the openings in the back for 6x9s...also throw an amp on those and lots of dynamat and itll bump! do you have the oval opening at the center of the dash? usually there was 1 speaker mounted there. what i did once on a 68 camaro was mount 2 4" speakers in there. didnt sound the best but the guy didnt want anything cut.

i also worked on a 70 nova on sunday at work and cut out 6x9 openings in the rear deck and installed 6.5s in the front doors....all had to be cut out and wires run but it sounded great. id recommend running them in the doors if the kick panels wont work.

I have a dual voice dash speaker in my 68 in the original spot, it's item 1015DVC in the Mustang's Unlimited catalog and would work for a '73 too, $44.95. Look into it if you want to get some sound to the front and not have to modify anything.

You should look at installing speaker baffles as well. This slide in before the speak and enclose the back of the speaker and helps to keep the sound from getting lost in the open air of the trunk of door. It helps to push the sound forward.

I can not find a spot in the dash where a speaker would be. Is this a option I do not have or am i just looking in the wrong spot?

Pretty sure sure the speaker mounts to underside of the dash pad. Seems that is the way on the 69's anyway.

I own a 72 grande so heres my 2 cents. look for your vin number on your dash, now look 2 feet right of it. Thats where the original speaker grill is/was. So this is what i did for my sound system. On the package tray, the previous owner already cut it up for 6x9s. So, of course I stuck Rockford Fosgate power 6x9 in them. Then Like you I wanted some speakers up front so I got the speaker pod for the kick panel like you did. I squeezed a Rockford Fosgate 5.25 inch speaker next to the e-brake. With the speaker grill on, yes it the does touch the speaker but the grill guards speaker from the pedal and does not bind up or anything. Okay so now I needed tweeters. Hmmmm..... I had just bought the MACH1 center dash piece with the gauges and the car it came off it did not have a/c so instead of having the center a/c vents it just had a cuby hole. Perfect since my a/c had been ripped out by a previous owner. So I stuck 2 tweeters in the little cuby. Ive been putting off fabricating a proper panel to mount them in thou. I THINK not 100% though that door speakers were an option, I know I have seen door speaker grills for sale in catologs. 6x9s are too big for the lower carpet part of your door panel but that would be a good place. Ill post pictures of my setup later. My girlfriend decided to not put the camera charger where it belongs.

Here's what I did with my '67 coupe, I had a custom box built to fit two tweeters, and two 6 inch speakers, and sat it right between the two front seats, Two 6x9's in the rear panel, and two 10's Mounted behind the rear seat in this box:

Mustang Speakers <-- Scroll down to the bottom, in the "Backseat Driver" section, I have one of those but replaced the speakers. But this is what I've got

"Pitbull" 6 inch and tweeters
Pioneer 250 watt 6x9's
JL Audio 500 Watt 10's
Planet Audio 400 watt Amp powering the 10's.

It sounds great, not too much bass like all them low riders ya see around, but still something good

Thanks for the help I found the where the speaker should be in the dash I was just looking in the wrong place. I also realized that the holes in the back are already cut for a 6x9 speaker but there are just some cheap round speakers there. My plan is to replace the dash speaker and replace the speakers in the back with 2 6x9 s. Then put some dynamat or something similar back there. It is already wired for an amp so I might put two 10’s back there that I have sitting around or just amp the 6x9s. I will see how that sounds then add some kick panel speakers if it still sounds bad.
