Default Transmission for a 302

I have a 289 motor in my mustang and I recently purchased a 302, can I use the same tranny or do I need to buy a new one?
I haven't got the engine yet it's being shipped here

Will work just fine. Your bellhousing is where any problems would exist (number and orientation of bolt holes). You have your original, so no problems. As far a compatibility of usability the 289/302/c4/c6 and many, many more ford engine and transmission combinations are interchangeable. This should be a direct swap for your purposes.
