Default 1967 mustang axle swap

hi, i am doing a six cylinder to v8 swop. my question is can anyone tell me what other axles will fit my car, does not have to be a 9 inch. just something that is quite common, as 60s 8 inch mustang axles are getting hard to find in the united kingdom and expensive, any sugestions or advive would be very welcome. regards graham.

If your looking for a bolt in swap, the only options you have are 8 or 9" rears from a Mustang or similar Ford and like you said those are getting harder to come especially in running order. The 8.8 rear from the Ford Explorers offers alot, but require a fair to moderate amount of work depending on your budget and/or skill level. This thread was a good discussion regarding axles...

And a forum search on "rear end" will yield plenty of reading.

Any ford car with a straight axle will work. You may have to cut it down to fit and weld on spring perches.A truck rear end will work but you have to cut it down and change the bolt pattern for the wheels. You could even use a gm or dana but same thing cut it down and change bolt patterns.
